Datenschutzerklärung (privacy policy)
This site is deliberately built to collect as little data as possible. Here is what that means in practice:
No accounts, no registration
There is no sign-up and no user account. The calculation runs on the server and the result comes straight back.
Analytics without cookies
We do measure how the site is used, but without cookies and without storing or reading anything on your device. Instead of an identifier in your browser, the server derives a check value from your IP address and your browser. The key it uses is rolled fresh every night and the old one deleted, so yesterday’s values cannot be matched against today’s. Because nothing is placed on your device, section 25 (1) TDDDG does not apply and there is still no cookie banner.
What that records
Pages viewed and how long for, buttons pressed, how far the calculator was filled in, the details you entered about your horse together with the result, share links you create, and clicks on advertising links. Alongside those: the referring page, device type, browser, operating system and language. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in seeing whether and where the calculator actually helps.
Share links
As soon as your result appears, the address bar holds a short link with a ten character code in it. For that code to open anything, we store the calculated ration along with the name you gave your horse. This happens on every calculation, not only when you share, because most links are simply copied out of the address bar. We keep it for as long as the link should work: otherwise the link would one day lead nowhere. Anyone holding the code can see the ration; we publish it nowhere and search engines are shut out. If you also press Share or Print, we note that the link was passed on. The reference to the visit it came from is removed after 30 days. If you want a link gone altogether, write to us: the address is in the imprint.
Feedback
There is a form under your result. Only the message itself is required: name and email address are optional, and worth giving only if you would like an answer. What you type is stored, along with the language, the page and the short code of the ration that was on screen, so that the message can be placed at all. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, and Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where we answer your enquiry. Unlike the measurement data, a message is not deleted automatically after 30 days but once it has been dealt with. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time; the address is in the imprint.
How long it is kept
Individual events are held for 30 days and then deleted. What remains are daily totals with no reference to individual visits, such as how many calculations happened on a given day.
Local storage in your browser
The horse details you last entered, along with your language and theme choice, sit in your browser’s localStorage, on your device and not with us. You can delete them at any time through your browser settings.
Server log files
When the site is called up, technically necessary data is processed (IP address, time, page requested, browser type). The legal basis is Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO, our legitimate interest in secure operation.
Affiliate links
Product links on this site are affiliate links. Data is only passed to the relevant shop or affiliate network when you click such a link. Without a click, no data goes to third parties. That a click happened is counted by us, as described above.
Your rights
You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because the analytics do not make you identifiable, we cannot attribute the measured data to a person (Art. 11 GDPR). For a share link we can, if you send us the link.
